Congress leader from Maharashtra Hussian Dalwai has won the Rajya Sabha bypoll held in Mumbai on Friday. Dalwai defeated BJP’s Surendra alias Bal Mane by a margin of 72 votes. In all, 176 MLAs voted in favour of Dalwai, while 104 MLAs voted for Mane. Out of the total 287 members of the Maharashtra assembly, five MLAs abstained from voting, while two votes were declared invalid. This bypoll was conducted to fill in the vacancy created by the resignation of Prithviraj Chavan who was appointed Maharashtra’s Chief Minister in April this year.
