Hundreds of VHP activists & senior leaders arrested ahead of Ayodhya yatra

In the wake of proposed 'Chaurasi Kosi Parikrama' by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Uttar Pradesh administration has arrested hundreds of VHP activists from Ayodhya including general secretary Praveen Togadia, ex MP Ram Vilas Vedanti, ex MLA Lallu Singh and Harish Dwivedi.

VHP President Ashok Singhal was arrested on reaching Lucknow airport where heavy police posse was deployed since this morning. Besides, President of the Ramjanam Bhumi Nyas, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was detained and put into house arrest in Maniram Chhawani of Ayodhya. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports, hundreds of VHP activists and senior leaders have been taken into custody from Makhaura Dham in Basti which is the starting point of the 84 Kosi Parikrama.

Ayodhya has been turned into a fortress to prevent any unwanted entry. Sources say that scores of VHP activists have been arrested from Chandauli, Faizabad, Sant Kabir Nagar and other places.

There is no public involvement in this Yatra as most of the people chose to remain indoors, especially in the Yatra affected six districts.
