Hundreds join Nirbhaya's parents in protests against juvenile convict's release

Parents of December 16 rape victim Nirbhaya on Sunday protested in the national capital against the juvenile convict's release.<br/><br/>Hundreds of sympathisers joined them at Rajpath near India Gate to show solidarity.<br/><br/>The victim's mother said she wanted justice for her daughter and said steps should have been taken long before to not set him free. <br/><br/>Earlier, Delhi Commission for Women, DCW made a last ditch effort to stop the release by urging Juvenile Justice Board to delay it since the matter is coming up before Supreme Court on Monday.<br/><br/>Last night, DCW chairperson moved Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release.<br/><br/>However, the apex Court declined to stay the release.<br/><br/>In their order pronounced at 2 AM, a vacation bench comprising Justices A K Goel and U U Lalit posted the matter for hearing tomorrow.<br/><br/>The convict, who is now 20 years old, has been shifted from a correctional centre to an NGO.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, the juvenile convict's release has sparked the nation's outrage, with Nirbhaya's parents claiming that they will continue to fight for justice.<br/><br/>Hundreds of people joined the protest near India Gate, and also took to social media to show their anguish at the rapist walking free. <br/><br/>Six persons, including the juvenile, had assaulted and raped Nirbhaya in a moving bus in south Delhi on 16th of December, 2012.<br/><br/>The victim died in a Singapore hospital later.<br/><br/>Four of the accused were awarded death penalty by trial court which was later confirmed by Delhi High Court.<br/><br/>Their appeals are pending before the Supreme Court. Another accused, Ram Singh, had allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail in 2013.
