Humanitarian approach needed to rehabilitate disaster affected people: Uttarakhand Governor

Governor of Uttarakhand Margaret Alva says, a humanitarian approach is needed to rehabilitate and assist the disaster affected resource-less people in the state. The Governor, who is also the Chairperson of the State Unit of the Indian Red Cross Society, was addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Society in Dehradun. She said that the greatest challenge now lay in providing succor to the victims of recent natural disaster caused by unprecedented rainfall in the State.Expressing her deep concern at the plight of citizens affected by the natural calamity, the Governor said that Red Cross once again emerged as the greatest benefactor by providing immediate relief to the affected people. She emphasized on conducting training to volunteers. The Governor said that the Red Cross Society is making arrangements to provide and distribute woolen blankets, woolen clothes and daily need items as per local requirements to the affected people on priority basis.
