The campaign group Human Rights Watch has accused all parties involved in the war in Somalia of serious violations of international law. The organisation says breaches of human rights are contributing to the catastrophe there and it calls on all sides to end the abuses and ensure access to aid.According to a report, Human Rights Watch says all parties in Somalia are in conflict and no party is innocent. Civilians are bearing the brunt not just of a terrible famine but failure of any side to protect them. The report accuses the Islamist armed group Al-Shabab of unrelenting daily repression and brutality in areas under its control. The transitional federal government is supposed to provide safety but in fact it too is accused of arbitrary arrests and detentions. Those who flee the country face more problems enduring rape and extortion, allegedly by the Kenyan police.
