The day is observed on 10th December every year since 1950 in commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UDHR, by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.<br />''<br />''The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion,  national or social origin, property, birth or other status.This year the theme is Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has urged everyone to work towards building an ecosystem to promote human rights and dedicate oneself to promote the noble ideas and principles of Universal declaration of human rights.<br />''<br />''In the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Mr Dhankhar said, it is our bounded duty to strive to uphold dignity, freedom and justice for all. He added that India has taken a series of measures which have exemplified a new dimension of human rights.<br />''<br />''Extending his greetings on the occasion, National Human Rights Commission  Chairperson,  Justice Arun Mishra in his message said that the day is observed to remember and strengthen the tenets of Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He added, however, we have to co-relate every right to some corresponding duty to be performed.<br />''<br />''He said, today amidst various new concerns of human rights, climate change and environmental degradation is emerging as a major cause of many human rights violations across the globe.<br />''<br />''He said, for this all stakeholders, nationally as well as internationally, need to contribute in the interests of growth and development of all equally.</span><br />''<br />

Human Rights Day is being observed today. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. <br/><br/>It is a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being. <br/><br/>Drafted by representatives of diverse legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration sets out universal values and a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. <br/><br/>It establishes the equal dignity and worth of every person. <br/>AIR correspondent reports, human rights are our basic rights or freedoms. They include our right to live, our right to health, education, freedom of speech and thoughts, and equal rights. <br/><br/>Cultural events and photo exhibitions are held to inform people, especially today's youth, of their rights and why it's important to hold on to them. <br/><br/>The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted between January 1947 and December 1948. <br/><br/>It aimed to form a basis for human rights all over the world and represented a significant change of direction from events during World War II and the continuing colonialism that was rife in the world at the time. <br/><br/>The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is considered as the most translated document in modern history. It is available in more than 360 languages and new translations are still being added.
