Today is Human Rights Day. On this day in 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first global enunciation of human rights. The theme for this year is 'Embrace Diversity, End Discrimination'. The day is marked to promote discrimination-free societies and equal treatment for all. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillai says discrimination lies at the root of many of the world’s most pressing human rights problems and no country is immune from this scourge.<br/> <br/>A series of functions are being held across the world today to create awareness among the people on the importance of human rights. <br/><br/>
