Human Rights Day being celebrated today

Human Rights Day is being celebrated today. The day is celebrated on this day every year to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration was adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948 as the shared standard yardstick to protect human rights across the globe. It recognizes inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of mankind as the foundation of justice, freedom and peace in the world. The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day, relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to recover better by ensuring Human Rights are at the heart of recovery efforts.<br />”&nbsp;<br />”The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC India today organized a function through virtual mode today to celebrate Human Rights Day. Since its inception 12th October, 1993 till 6th December this year, the Commission has registered more than 19 lakh 50 thousand cases and disposed of over 19 lakh 32 thousand. A total 188 crore rupees have been paid as relief to the victims of human rights violations in over seven thousand cases by various state agencies on the recommendations of the Commission.<br />”&nbsp;<br />”<span style="color: #222222;">Speaking at a function through video conference in New Delhi, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said, government has taken several steps for the empowerment of women and children. He said, to provide clean cooking fuel to every poor households, the Government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and to remove gender inequality Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign was launched. Mr Rai said that the government reached out to the poor during the Covid pandemic and ensured that no one goes hungry by announcing the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.</span><br />

Acharya urged all stakeholders to come forward and to have discussion on the issues of human rights through political conferences, meetings, exhibitions, cultural events and debates.<br/><br/>Acharya further encouraged groups such as women, minorities, youth, differently-abled person and indigenous people.<br/><br/>

Besides these initiatives, during the last 23 years of its existence, the Commission has endeavoured to promote a culture of human rights. <br/><br/>It has made a number of interventions on important issues, which include on issues of bonded and child labour, prison reforms, rights of differently abled persons, manual scavenging and sanitation, and human rights of women.

It recognizes inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of mankind as the foundation of justice, freedom and peace in the world. <br/><br/>The slogan of this year is stand up for someone's rights today which aims to re-emphasise how important it is to live in peace and harmony, compassion and concern for each other's rights with respect towards the idea of mutual co-existence.<br/><br/>In run up to the celebration of Human Rights Day, the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has organised a series of events. Besides the release of some NHRC publications on the occasion, prizes of 1 lakh, 75 thousand and 50 thousand rupees will be given for the three best short films on human rights. Some short films will also be screened on the occasion. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that during the last 23 years of its existence, the Commission has endeavoured to promote a culture of human rights. It has made a number of interventions on key issues of human rights, which include, among others, issues of bonded and child labour, prison reforms, rights of persons with disability, illegal clinical drug trials, pricing of drugs, manual scavenging and sanitation, human rights of women.
