In Bangladesh, the chief of banned terrorist group Harkatul Jihad Sheikh Mohammad Farid was arrested on Tuesday night by a team of the Rapid Action Battalion from Tongi on the outskirts of Dhaka city. According to a RAB official, Farid was arrested after an extensive manhunt based on information provided by two other militants who were arrested earlier in the week. 47-year Sheik Mohammed Farid is reported to be leading the banned extremist group of HuJI for the past several years and is wanted in four specific cases which include the 2001 bomb attack on Pahela Baishakhi festival programme at Ramna Batmul in Dhaka, the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally and the case of Kotalipara bomb implant targeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her 1996-2001 tenure.
