In Egypt, huge protests were organised in various cities in the country including Cairo’s Tahrir Square, Alexandria and Suez. The protester are demanding swifter reforms and speedy trials of former tainted ministers and police officers accused of killing protesters during protests that ousted Hosni Mubarak from power.The protests are the result of growing frustration due to acquittal of three former ministers charged with corruption along with the release of several police officers accused of killing protesters. The acquittals triggered a series of riots that turned up the heat on Egypt's leaders this week.More than 20 political parties and groups have supported the protests, which has been named as ‘Friday of Determination’.In a bid to defuse rising anger, the Interior Ministry has earlier announced that hundreds of high-ranking police officers would be sacked for their role in the harsh crackdown on anti-government protests earlier this year. Interior Minister Mansour Al Essawi said in a statement that it will be the largest shake up in the history of his ministry.According to a fact-finding commission, at least 846 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured in the 18-day uprising against Mubarak.
