World No. 13 Prannoy beat eighth-ranked Lin Dan of China 21-15, 9-21, 21-14. Verma scraped past Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 21-9, 12-21, 22-20 in the other men's singles match.
In women's singles, Saina Nehwal beat her Indonesian opponent Dinar Dyah 21-12, 21-12.
However, it was curtains for women's doubles pair of Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram. Other Indians in the fray, Sai Praneeth is scheduled to play later today.
