Like other opposition parties, the Trinamul Congress delegation, led by party MP Derek O'Brian, also visited Hyderabad University in the aftermath of the suicide of a Dalit student for indulging in petty politics only, the Union HRD minister, Smriti Zubin Irani alleged today. Addressing a BJP rally in Durgapur today, Mrs. Irani said this is the same opposition that remained a mute spectator last year when three Dalit girl-students were tortured in Nadia in Bengal.

The Union Minister alleged that under the Trinamul rule, the state's women are humiliated and honour of the land is also lost while the people are compelled to survive amidst insecurity. This is grossly shameful that the price of a woman's respect has been rated at Rs. 20 thousand under the women CM, Mamata Banerjee's government, Mrs. Irani said. She alleged that in Asansol and Durgapur illegal coal mining is thriving under the patronage of the ruling party.

The government, instead of coming to the aid of the commoners, is safe-guarding the coal mafia whereas the Union government has been trying to stop the illegal mining in the area. Smt. Irani said that the Bengal government is not cooperating in the matter. BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Rahul Sinha and Union minister Babul Supriyo among others attended the rally.

Mr. Supriyo afterwards alleged that Asansol Police misbehaved with him when he, later, went to meet the family members of a girl allegedly killed after rape in Jamuria area. The district police chief threatened the minister against proceeding to the village of the girl while the police-personnel deputed in Jamuria stopped him five KMs away from the village.

The Police informed the minister that Section 144 was imposed in the area but failed to show any document to this effect, Mr. Supriyo informed media-persons before personally removing the barricade and proceeding to the village.
