Human Resource Development Ministry has set up a three- member committee to give a hearing to 44 deemed universities that were found unfit to be accorded varsity status as they lack appropriate academic infrastructure standards. The committee will be headed by additional secretary of HRD Ministry A S Thakur. Official sources said that the Ministry had sent notices to these institutions in January following a Supreme Court order.The committee will go through the responses of each of the universities before sending its report to a review panel of experts, which had found deficiencies in these varsities.Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal had last month said the Centre will issue show-cause notices to all deemed universities and take a decision on each case within a given time frame.
