As the month- long high pitched campaigning came to an end last evening for the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh tomorrow, the contestants and their supporters are now engaged in door to door meetings to woo the voters in their favour. The polling will begin at 8 AM and continue till 5 PM.
Meanwhile, more than 50 per cent polling parties have already reached their polling stations and rest are on their way. There are 7253 polling booths in the state. 60 companies of para-military forces along with state police have been deployed for conducting free and fair elections in a peaceful manner.
A record number of 459 contestants including 27 women are in the fray with opposition Congress and ruling BJP, fielding candidates for all the 68 seats. Himachal Lok Morcha consisting of Himachal Lokhit Party, CPI and CPI (M) is contesting 58 seats and had extended support to three independents also.
The BSP has fielded 66 candidates followed by TMC 25, Lok Janshakti Party and Swabhiman Party 16 each, Samajwadi Party 12 and Shiv Sena, which is contesting for the first time 4 . There are 105 independents in the fray.
