HP polls: Campaigning ends

A month long campaigning for the 12th assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh has come to an end today. The polling will be held on Sunday the November 4th and results will be declared on December 20th. Leaders of various political parties have promised moon to electors in all these days.

Although the main contest is between Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) but above 30 rebel candidates from both these parties and 105 Independents can make a dent in their vote bank. People believe that the presence of third front by the name of Himachal Lok Morcha consisting of Himachal Lokhit Party, a break away group of BJP, and, CPI (M) and CPI having a total of 57 candidates cannot be ignored. More than one lakh voters including first timers could also play an important role in electing a government of their choice. There is multi-cornered contest in most of the 68 assembly constituencies.

Keeping this scenario in mind, poll pundits give an impression that no party will get an absolute majority.

Polling teams have already started moving for polling booths situated at far off areas in the state. For the protection of 7,252 polling booths including 2,019 sensitive and hyper-sensitive, adequate security arrangements had been made. Sixty companies of para-military forces along with state police and surveillance teams are keeping a strict vigil to conduct free and fair elections in a transparent manner.
