In Himachal Pradesh, the crucial meeting of the newly elected Congress legislators is underway in Shimla to elect the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. The AICC General Secretary Janardan Diwedi, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheela Dixit, the State Party Affairs Incharge Birender Singh Choudhary and Co-incharge Anees Ahmad are attending the meeting as central observer.
The Congress has wrested power from the BJP by securing an absolute majority with 36 seats in the assembly elections.
The State Congress President and five times Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh who led the election campaign of the party to a victory is the front runner for the post of Congress Legislative Party.
However, senior congress leader and the former Congress State President Kaul Singh Thakur is staking his claim for the post. Both the leaders say that they will accept what every decision is taken by the party high command on the leadership issue. AIR correspondent reports that
despite prevailing cold condition, the State Capital Shimla has been witnessing hectic political activities in the Congress to elect the next chief minister ahead of the meeting of the Congress Legislative Party now underway.
The congress sources said that the central observers are likely to know the views of the legislators jointly and also separately on the leadership issue before adopting a single line resolution to send it to the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi for final decision.
