Winter session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly session began in dharamshala on Monday on a stormy note after Congress and BJP members clashed on state government’s achievements even as the opposition also chose to level allegations of ‘corruption and illegal land deals’ against the government to turning the House into turmoil on the opening day. Enraged BJP members also countered the Congress with charges of corruption quoting two recent scams relating to 2G Spectrum and Common Wealth Games for which the Parliament has witnessed opposition protests to demand Joint Parliamentary probe (JPC). Though Speaker Tulsi Ram ‘s intervention helped to restore order in the House but later it was Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal declaring in the House that the government has decided to sent legal notices to CLP leader Vidya Stokesand PCC president Kaul Singh Thakur for having ‘levelled unsubstantiated charges of illegal land deals’. Dhumal, who was replying on a resolution moved by two MLAs —Rakesh Pathania and Suresh Bhardwaj tried to turn the tables on the Congress for having granted a large number of permissions for land sale to outsider during its regime. The BJP government granted only 1243 permissions for land purchase, majority of it 485 in Solan because of industrial investments, but congress created a record of sorts allowing 2068 cases. Chief Minister also ridiculed the congress claims that most of the development activities in Himachal Pradesh has basis to the findings by the centre and thus there was no logic for the party MLAs to ‘mislead’ the people on state government’s achievements.
