HP: 5 killed & 3 injured after being struck by an avalanche

In Himachal Pradesh five people have been killed and three others injured after being struck by an avalanche in Tissa area of Chamba District. The region remains cut off from the rest of the state and the injured could not be shifted to even to the near by hospital at Tissa due to ongoing heavy snowfall. Our shimla correspondent reports the bodies could not be recovered so far and the seriously injured people are being brought to Tissa hospital with the help of local people. Extreme cold wave and inclement weather accompanied by rain and snow continue to paralyze life in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla experienced 2 cms snowfall while sleet and snow was continuing in the nearby areas during the day. Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) at Manali has warned people of avalanche threat . The Chandrabhaga River, a tributary of Spiti was blocked due to an avalanche in Lahaul and Spiti district but there was no cause for alarm as the discharge of water was very low due to freezing of the river. Local MeT office has predicted more rains, snow or thunderstorm at isolated places in mid and higher hills during the next four days.
