In Himachal Pradesh, the bodies of four of the 24 students, who drowned in the river Beas at Mandi last evening, have been recovered by the rescue teams. They were part of the group of students from Hyderabad based VNR Vigyan Jyoti Institute of Engineering and Technology. The Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has reached the spot.
The students who drowned include 18 boys and six girls who were on an excursion trip. A control room with Phone Number: 01905-223374 has been set up at Mandi for any information.
Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani has expressed concern over the shocking incident. Ms Irani has assured the Himachal Pradesh Education Minister J.S. Bali of all assistance required from the Centre.
The Minister also spoke to the faculty of the Engineering College who was accompanying the students group and was present at the accident site. The Principal of the college has been assured of all cooperation at such a tragic and challenging juncture.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has sought a report from the state on the incident.
