House stalled for 4th day over price rise

The price rise issue continued to rock the Parliament for the fourth day Friday leading to the adjournment of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the day. Persisting with their demand for discussion on the issue under rules, which call for voting, the Opposition did not allow both the Houses to run. The Houses were first adjourned till Noon and then for the day as pandemonium prevailed right from the beginning. In the Lok Sabha, soon after the House assembled for the day, Leader of Opposition, Sushma Swaraj said that Speaker, Meira Kumar, had rejected the notice for suspension of Question Hour to discuss the price rise issue and the Government was also not responding to their fresh notice for discussion under Rule 184, which entails voting. On the Other hand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the Opposition had not allowed the House to run although the Government was ready to discuss the issue. As ruckus continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon. When the House reassembled, amidst din, Minister of State for Science and Technlogy, Prithviraj Chavan, introduced a Bill to set up an academy for the advancement of learning and research in the field of science and technology. The Rajya Sabha, which also witnessed similar scenes, was also adjourned minutes after it met, first till noon and then for the day.
