The total horticulture production of the country is estimated to be around 286 million tonnes during 2015-16 which is 2 per cent higher than the previous year. Agriculture Ministry today released the final estimates of 2015-16 of horticulture produce. Production of onion at 209 lakh tonnes was 11 per cent higher than the previous year. <br/><br/>Production of tomato is estimated to be around 187 lakh tonnes which is about 15 per cent higher than the previous year. However, the production of potato was 10 per cent lower than the previous year. <br/><br/>The Ministry also released the first advance estimates of 2016-17, of production of horticulture crops pegging up the production at 287 million tonnes, which is marginally higher as compared to previous year. Production of onion is estimated to be around 197 lakh tonnes which is 6 per cent lower than the previous year.
