Hooch tragedy in Andhra Pradesh: toll mounts to 14

In Andhra Pradesh, the death toll rose to 14 in the hooch tragedy with five more persons succumbing on sunday. Nine persons died yesterday after consuming country made liquor near Mylavaram in Krishna District. District police today said five more succumbed in hospital. With this, the toll in the hooch tragedy rose to 14.The dead include three women and all the victims belonged to three tribal hamlets in the district. Six more persons who fell ill after consuming cheap liquor are struggling for their life in hospitals in Mylavarma and Vijayawada .The state Government has ordered a judicial probe into the incident. The liquor samples have been sent for chemical analysis. State Excise Minister, Venkataramana ordered suspension of a circle inspector and a sub-inspector of Mylavaram's excise department.The relatives of the victims held protests at the excise office at Mylavaram demanding action against the guilty and compensation to the families of the victims.
