The Assam Government has decided to confer the prestigious Srimanta Sankardev Award to the noted litterateur and journalist, Dr Homen Borgohain for 2007 and to the eminent film actress Sharmila Tagore for the year 2008. This is in recognition of their significant and lasting contribution to the fields of journalism and literature and art and culture respectively.<br/><br/>The award will be likely to be given away by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on 23rd of this month at a function in Guwahati. <br/>
