Home Secretary level talks between India, Bangladesh begin in Dhaka

Under the India-Bangladesh Home Secretary level talks currently on in Dhaka, the Joint Working Group headed by the Joint Secretaries of the two countries had close-door day-long deliberations. Sources say a host of issues were discussed security co-operation, improving border management, border killings, border trade infrastructure including border and integrated check-posts and cross border crime. <br/><br/> Sources also said discussions were held on firming up operational procedures regarding the MOUs on human trafficking and counterfeit currency signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka in June this year. The Joint Working Group included 12 Indian members headed by Joint Secretary M.A. Ganpati and 15 Bangladeshi members headed by Additional Secretary AHM Rahamatul Munim. <br/><br/>Representatives of law enforcement agencies including BSF and BGB also attended the deliberations. The 2-day talks will continue tomorrow with one-to-one deliberations between the Home Secretaries of the two countries.

Home Secretary level talks between India, Bangladesh begin in Dhaka

Two-day India-Bangladesh home secretary level talks have begun in Dhaka today. Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi is leading the Indian delegation, while his counterpart Dr. Mohammad Mozammel Haquw Khan is leading the Bangladesh team. Issues like effective management of the 4096 km border, border killings, improving border trade infrastructure, transborder crime including arms and narcotics movement are some of the issues likely to dominate the talks.<br/><br/>Sources in the Bangladesh Home Ministry said Dhaka is likely to urge New Delhi to repatriate some Bangladeshis including BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed and two killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rahman, believed to be in India. Both countries are also expected to discuss ways to bring back people lodged in jails and police custody on charges of terrorist activities and illegal entry.
