Home Ministry's Special Secretary (Internal Security) Rina Mitra and Joint Secretary (North-East) visited all four states in North East with free movement regime, FMR. <br/><br/>The states are Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur. According to Sources, both the officers also visited several border exit points to study the existing system. <br/><br/>They also held meetings with the respective state Chief secretaries, DGPs, Commissioners and Assam Rifles. <br/><br/>The committee chaired by Special secretary (Internal Security) was set up by Home Minister Rajnath Singh to examine the existing rules and regulations adopted by the border states for implementation of free movement regime. <br/><br/>The regime allows visa-free movement for the people living within 16 kilometers on either side of the Indo-Myanmar border. They can stay up to 72 hours with effective and valid permits issued by the designated authorities on either side. <br/><br/>This regime has been in place keeping in view the social relations among the border people. <br/><br/>The Committee was formed in the backdrop of reports of misuse of the regime by militants and criminals.
