Home Ministry orders NIA probe into Liyaqat Shah's arrest

The Home Ministry on Monday ordered NIA probe into suspected Hizbul terrorist Liyaqat Ali Shah's arrest after counter claims by Jammu Kashmir and Delhi police. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had supported the claims of Shah's family that he was a former militant who had already surrendered and was part of a group returning from Pakistan occupied Kashmir as part of the state's rehabilitation policy. On the contrary, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has claimed that it had foiled a suicide attack in the capital with the arrest of Shah, who, they claimed, was a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist and was planning attacks in Delhi. Liyaqat Ali Shah was arrested by Delhi police on Wednesday from a guest house in Old Delhi. His arrest sparked a controversy after Jammu and Kashmir government and police contradicted Delhi Police's version that Shah was coming to Delhi to coordinate terror strikes during Holi. Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also demanded NIA probe into the matter. Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar met Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Liyaqat Shah's arrest on Monday.
