Home Minister visits cyclone hit Puducherry

Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram has said that a high level central team will visit Puducherry in a day or two to make an assessment of the damages caused by cyclonic storm Thane. Speaking to newsmen after visiting the affected areas in Puducherry, the Home Minister said the Thane had caused devastation to the entire Puducherry badly damaging infrastructure facilities and agricultural crops.Around 86,000 thousands of huts and semi-permanent structure were also damaged. He said after his return to New Delhi, he will meet Prime Minister and Finance Minister and brief them of the damages caused by the storm.He said he will take all possible steps to get immediate relief to mitigate the sufferings of the affected people. Mr. Chidambaram was accompanied by Union Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Mr. V Narayanasamy and Chief Minister Mr. N. Rangasamy.
