Home Minister promises stern action to prevent rapes in capital; Arrested Cab driver to be produced in court today

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the rape incident in Delhi last Friday by a cab driver, was a blot on the society and stern steps will be taken to check such crimes. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said that existing laws needed to be implemented more effectively and efforts should be made to bring about a perceptional change in the society.

The accused cab driver will be presented before a Delhi court today. He was arrested yesterday from his hideout in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura town.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today informed the Lok Sabha that the accused in the rape case of a young lady, has been brought to Delhi and will be produced in court today. The dastardly incident took place in the national capital on Friday night. Making a statement in the House, Mr Singh condemned the incident and said the government is taking quick action to bring the offender to justice. Members from the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and RJD have demanded concrete action from the government so that such incident do not recur in future.

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party and NSUI workers were detained this morning when they staged protests outside the Home Minister's residence over the rape incident. Party workers were demanding government action to improve security of women in the national capital.
