Home Minister on two-day visit to J&K; reviews security in border districts

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, accompanied by Union Home Secretary R.K.Singh, arrived in Jammu today on a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Soon after his arrival at Jammu Technical Airport, he left for Chakan-Da- Bagh, cross-LoC point in Poonch, where he had a meeting with Civil, Police and top officials of security agencies and reviewed the security scenario in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

He also held a meeting with a delegation of traders, visited trade and immigration centres and discussed measures required to be taken for boosting the cross-LoC trade and travel of Poonch-Rawalakote route.

Our correspondent reports that during the meeting with the delegation of Traders, the Union Home Minister was requested that except from banned items from Pak Occupied Kashmir, the traders be allowed to import all other items which can help in giving boost to the cross LoC trade.

Mr. Shinde assured the traders delegation that necessary steps will be taken to strengthen the trade. Replying to a question about repeated infiltration attempts being made from across the border, the Union Home Minister said that this issue is regularly being taken up with Pakistan.

Later, the Home Minister flew to Suchetgarh where he reviewed the security situation on the International border with top BSF officials.
