Home Minister on Israel visit; To meet Israeli PM, Defence Minister

Home Minister Rajnath Singh is on a two day visit to Israel. During his stay in Tel Aviv today, Mr. Singh is scheduled to meet the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon. Agreements on several issues are expected to be signed during the visit.

Mr. Rajnath Singh's visit is aimed at giving a boost to bilateral ties between the two countries. Focus will be homeland and border security matters. Expanded collaboration in counter terrorism measures and discussions on free trade agreement between the two countries are likely to be discussed during the visit.

The visit comes more than a month after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli premier Netanyahu in New York. It also follows the meeting of Israel's National Security Adviser Joseph Cohen who had met Rajnath Singh and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval earlier.

It will also be the first visit of an Indian Home Minister to Israel since June 2000, when LK Advani visited Tel Aviv.
