The Union Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram has written to Chief Ministers to maintain a high degree of vigil to check communal incidents in States. In his letter, Mr Chidambaran asked them to identify areas and towns which are communally sensitive and to maintain constant vigil in those areas. Expressing concern over some recent events, the letter further said over 100 incidents have been reported in the last two months in which 26 lives were lost.
