Home Min reviews anti- naxal steps in Chattisgarh

Union Home minister P. Chidambaram today reviewed the steps taken by the Chattisgarh government in tackling naxalism. Speaking to reporters in Raipur today he reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to give all support to the naxal affected states, in curbing Left Wing Extremism. He said that the state government must remain vigilant in fighting the menace eventhough the incidence of naxal violence has come down this year in Chhattisgarh.

The Home minister hoped the Chhattisgarth government will fill up the more than 8 thousand vacancies in the state police force by 2012. He said the state government has been asked to raise two more India Reserve Battalions in 2012. He said, the Centre has already given 135 companies of central para military force to Chhattisgarh till now. He said in addition to this the centre has also sanctioned 150 crore rupees for the setting up of 45 police stations in the naxal affected areas of the state. Mr. Chidambaram said that under the Integrated Action Plan (IAP), Chhattisgarh government has so far been given 55 crore rupees for developmental activities in naxal hit areas. He said, 59 per cent of the funds and 75 of the works under the IAP has been completed by the Chhattisgarh government.
