Home Min Chidambaram meets people in Dhubri relief camps

Home Minister P Chidambaram today visited violence hit Dhubri district of Assam. Chidambaram visited relief camps at Barkanda and Lakhiganj and met the people being sheltered there. The Home Minister said that all the inmates of relief camps can go home soon amidst full security. He also said that all the compensation and financial assistance being announced by the government will be cleared soon.
Meanwhile, Assam government has initiated short and long term plan to rehabilitate displaced people in the violence hit districts. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday said that people who have taken shelter at relief camps can return homes within 15 days. Some of the inmates of the relief camps have returned homes.
State Home department sources said that detailed plans have been drawn to restore peace and maintain law and order situation in Kokrajahr, Chirang and Dhubri district.Atleast 65 additional security posts is being set up at the violence marred areas .One platoon of security personnel will be deployed at single post. District administration will also set up shelter home at villages for those whose houses have been burnt till the further arrangement has been made. Necessary foods and other amenities will be provided to them. Above 5 thousand houses have been burnt by miscreants at 244 villages. The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh is his recent visit to Kokrajhar announced an assistance of 30 thousand rupees to those whose houses are fully damaged and 20 thousand rupees for partially damaged houses. Steps have also been taken to hold motivational meetings at the violence hit areas involving all sections of people.
