Holi celebrated across the country

Holi, the festival of colours, celebrated across the country with traditional fanfare and gaiety on Thursday. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion.<br/><br/>In Delhi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, M Venkaiah Naidu, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP president Amit Shah, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi celebrated the festival at their residences with people.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, the festival was celebrated in the eastern parts of the state including Lucknow, Jhansi on Wednesday while in the western districts including Bareilly, Meerut and Agra, it was celebrated on Thursday.<br/><br/>In Rajasthan, the festival of colours popularly known as Dhulandi was celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm on Thursday.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that foreign tourists also enjoyed the festival across the state.<br/><br/>Fag-Utsav was organised at Govind deoji temple in Jaipur, MadanMohan ji Temple in Karauli and in various other temples across the state.<br/><br/>This time people preferred herbal gulal in-order to save water.<br/><br/>Rajasthan Tourism Department organised Holi -Utsav for foreign tourist in Jaipur.<br/><br/>In Tonk district people took out procession of Badshah ki sawari as symbol of communal harmony.<br/><br/>Phool-dol-utsav was organised at Kishan ganj in Baran district.<br/><br/>In Barmer BSF jawans and officers also celebrated holi.<br/><br/>Rajasthan police will not celebrate Holi tomorrow as mark of respect towards policeman Khumram who martyred in firing recently in Nagaur.<br/><br/>In Gujarat, celebrations of Holi festival was witnessed in temples, clubs and societies. AIR correspondent reports,<br/><br/>The people of Gujarat have celebrated Holi- the festival of colors with full enthusiasm. Elders were seen participating in holi celebration in temples while youngsters were enjoying colors and rain dance in societies, clubs and farm houses of Ahmedabad throughout the day.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Anjar city of Kutch had witnessed unique tradition on holi- in which people were gathered to perform the marriage rituals of donkey couple.<br/><br/>Similarly, the villagers of Dhava and Gundaran in Talala of Saurashtra have performed marriage procession of donkey called Valam- and collected the funds for animal welfare.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, Border Security Force Officers and Jawans on Thursday celebrated Holi at various Border Outposts and campuses under South Bengal Frontier.<br/><br/>Officials of their Bangladesh counterparts, Border Guard Bangladesh also greeted the BSF officials on this occasion and sweets were exchanged between the two border guarding forces at Petrapole-Benapole border.<br/><br/>In Odisha, People cutting across religious lines were seen smearing colours on each other and exchanging greetings.<br/><br/>
