Andhra Pradesh High Court today directed the state government to hold elections to Local Bodies within three months. A High Court Bench comprising Chief Justice P C Ghosh and justice Vilas V Afzal Purkar has directed the state Government not to exceed 50 per cent reservations as per the Supreme Court guidelines set earlier. Over a writ petition filed by individuals, the High Court has asked the government to immediately start election process to MPTCs, ZPTCs and Village Panchayats based on 2001 census for reservation purpose even if the latest census findings are not available. It also directed the state to prepare a report ensuring that the reservations will not exceed 50 percent and submit it to the Election Commission.Our Correspondent adds that the local bodies in the state are under the control of special officers since last year when the term of the elected representatives was completed.
