Hockey World League: India win quarter final against Belgium by 3-2

India beat Olympics silver medalists Belgium, 3-2 in penalty shootout to storm into the semifinals of the Hockey World League Final at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. The match went to penalty shoot-outs after both teams were tied 3-3 at full time. While Gurjant Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Rupinderpal Singh were the goal scorers for India, Belgium's goals came from Loick Luypaert and Amaury Keusters. Warming the bench for most part of the match, goalkeeper Aakash Chikte blocked four Belgian attackers during the shootout. handing India their first win of the tournament. Lalit Upadhyay, Rupinder and Harmanpreet scored from India in the shoot-out. The Indian Men's team had finished the group stage at the bottom of Pool-B with 2 defeats and a draw from 3 games. It drew with world champions Australia, before losing to England and Germany. Belgium, on the other hand, topped Pool-A with wins in all the 3 matches. In the other quarter-final today, Australia thrashed Spain 4-1. India's semifinal opponent will be decided after the conclusion of remaining two-quarterfinals tomorrow, with England facing Argentina, and Germany taking on the Netherlands.
