Hockey legend Shahid passes away<br/>

Noted Indian hockey player Mohammed Shahid passed away aged 56 this morning due to multiple organ failure. He was being treated at a hospital in Gurugram. Mohammed Shahid was a member of the V Baskaran-led Indian team that won a Gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He was known for his dribbling skills, and was considered one of India&apos;s greatest hockey players. Shahid&apos;s son Mohammed Saif told PTI that the last rites will be performed in Varanasi tomorrow.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the passing away of Hockey Wizard Mohammed Shahid. Mr Modi said in a tweet that India has lost a talented sportsman who played with immense passion and vigour. The Prime Minister said, government tried its level best to save him. The Sports Ministry had announced a medical grant of 10 lakh rupees for him and the Railways had announced that his medical expenses would be taken care of by the Ministry. Shahid is survived by his wife and twin children. A sports officer with the Railways, Shahid recieved the Arjuna Award in 1981 and was honoured with Padma Shri in 1986. Sports Minister Vijay Goel and members of the hockey team had paid a visit to ailing hockey legend last week.
