The Indian Men's Hockey team suffered its first defeat of the European tour last night when it lost to hosts Spain, 1-4 in the opening game of the 3-match series. The score was 1-1 at half time at Sant Cugat del Valles, with the second half witnessing the home side playing brilliantly and scoring 3 goals. SV Sunil was the only scorer for India. The series with Spain is the second and final leg of the tour. India had clean sweeped the 2-match first leg against France. The second match will be played at the same venue tomorrow. The tour has been organised to prepare for the upcoming World League Final which will be held in India later this year.Meanwhile, experienced midfielder Gurbaj Singh has been suspended for nine months for indiscipline. The charges were levelled against the player by India's coach after last month's Hockey World League Semifinals in Belgium. Gurbaj was not included in the ongoing European tour, and the suspension could shatter his dream of playing in next year's Rio Olympics. The midfielder has the option to lodge an appeal with Hockey India's appellate tribunal within a month's time.
