HM Rajnath Singh meets delegations of civil society groups at Nehru Guest House in Srinagar

On the first day of his visit to Srinagar, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh met various delegations of civil society groups at Nehru Guest House today. <br/><br/>Sources said, during his meeting with delegations of tour operators, hotel industry, youths, fruit growers and priests (Imams) of Srinagar, the Home Minister asked them for free and fair feedback and suggestions to restore normalcy in the Kashmir region. <br/><br/>Mr Singh is on a two day visit to Srinagar to review the current situation in the Kashmir region in the aftermath of the protests and violence. <br/><br/>Apart from having meetings with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and political parties, Mr Singh will also be briefed about the overall situation by the security and administrative officials.<br/><br/>The protests and violence broke out after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani and his two associates on 8th of this month in Kokernag area of south Kashmir.<br/><br/>Besides a policeman, atleast 44 civilians have died during the clashes between protesters and the security personnel across Kashmir so far. Our correspondent reports that the curfew and restrictions continue to remain in force across Kashmir region for the past 15 days. <br/><br/>This is the Home Minister's 2nd visit to Kashmir during the current month. On Thursday, Mr Singh had said he will reach out to people of Kashmir while taking part in a debate on Kashmir in Parliament. <br/><br/>He had stated in Parliament that he wanted to hold talks with people whose pain was being felt by every Indian. The Union Minister had also said that all the happenings in Kashmir were occurring at the behest of Pakistan.
