HM Rajnath Singh flags off 'Road Safety Walk'

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off Road Safety Walk from India gate in New Delhi today, to kick start the 27th road Safety week.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, he said, to reduce the accident rates in country all the stake holders like center and states need to act as a team. <br/><br/>Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari along with Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan,Cricketer Gautham Gambhir, and Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi were also present at the event. <br/><br/>Mr. Gadkari said, every year around 5 lakh accidents are taking place in India and around one and half lakh people are dying due to this. <br/><br/>He said, the work to set up Road Safety Authority is on progress and Mr Gadkari also hinted at bringing the New Water Vehicle act in the upcoming session of parliament. <br/><br/>The week long National Road Safety Week is being held from today to 17th of this month across the nation. <br/><br/>It is observed every year in the month of January to generate awareness among public about road safety. <br/><br/>This year the road safety week will be dedicated on theme 'road safety time for action' and under this programme, strict compliance of traffic rule would be ensured by creating awareness among people. <br/><br/>With 80 per cent of all road deaths worldwide estimated in low income countries, India leads the world inroad accident deaths, with around 1,50,000 people being killed each year. <br/><br/>India accounts for 10 % of global road accident deaths.<br/>
