HM calls upon states to work in tandom with centre to counter naxal menace

The Home Minister P Chidambaram called upon states and centre to work in tendom to effectively deal with the naxal menace in the country. He said the menace can be controlled in two to three years if coordinated action is taken but there is no question of using army or airforce in the operations. <br/> <br/>Responding to the debate on Dantewada massacre issue in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Mr. Chidambaram said preliminary report suggests it was a command and control failure and the complete picture will be known only after the E. Ram Mohan Committee report is available with the government.<br/> <br/>He said that the committee will submit its report by 25th of this month. Renewing his offer for dialogue to the Maoist if they leave violence, Mr. Chidambaram asserted policy of establishing administrative control over Maoist infested areas remains the prime objective of the government. He however urged the states to carry out developmental activities in the areas wherever it is possible. <br/> <br/>Mr. Chidambaram reiterated that dealing with the Maoist violence is the primary responsibility of the states and centre will extend all possible help to them to effectively and resolutely deal with this problem. <br/> <br/>The Home Minister said that the problem has to be dealt with fearlessly and questioned those who are advocating that the Maoists are pro poor. He gave the details of the schools and other infrastructure damaged by the Maoists and made a case how these people are acting only against the interest of the people. <br/> <br/>He said, though the issue is a complex one, people have slowly started resisting against the atrocities and anti-people policies threatening internal security and democratic foundations of the country. <br/> <br/>Referring to the philosophy of these armed insurgents Mr. Chidambaram asserted that the Congress party is totally united in dealing with this issue. <br/> <br/>He thanked different sections of the House for extending support to the government in this fight but regretted that the fund allotted for development of these 34 district are not fully utilised.<br/><br/>
