The Home Minister has appealed to the media to help in the efforts in maintaining communal harmony in view of the reported threats by pastor in the United States to burn the Holy Quran. While expressing hope that the US authorities will take strong action to prevent such an outrage to be committed, the Home Minister said that the act is calculated to increase strife between different religious groups. In a statement, the Home Minister has strongly condemned the action by the Pastor saying it is totally unbecoming of anyone who claims to be a man of religion. Mr. Chidambaram said that no-one who is interested in maintaining harmony and peace among different sections of the people can condone such action. He said that the Us authorities as well as religious leaders all over the world have condemned the proposed action of the Pastor.
