Hitendra Thakur holds sway in Vasai-Virar polls

Former MLA Hitendra Thakur proved his strong hold over Vasai region in neighbouring Thane district of Mumbai as his Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) emerged a clear winner, bagging 55 of the 88 seats in Vasai-Virar municipal corporation polls. <br/><br/>The first polls of the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) held on Sunday saw around 40 per cent turnout and sporadic incidents of violence. <br/><br/>Jan Andolan Samiti (JAS) led by Shiv Sena-backed MLA Vivek Pandit and Hitendra Thakur’s Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), were locked in a battle for the 88 municipal wards. <br/><br/>Jan Andolan Samiti bagged 19 seats. Independents won 19, Shiv Sena three, Congress two, BJP and MNS one each.
