The Maharashtra Government has decided to challenge in the Supreme Court the HC verdict acquitting Actor Salman Khan of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case.<br/>Government pleader Abhinandan Vagyani today informed Justices A S Oka and G S Patel that the government will move a Special Leave Petition -SLP to file the appeal against the actor's acquittal from the five-year sentence.<br/><br/>Speaking to AIR, Vagyani said that the SLP would be filed in the Supreme Court by the first week of January. He said that the bench today observed that appropriate amendments should be made in the law which cover hit and run like cases. According to Vigyani the court also observed that in cases of mishaps where serious harm or death is caused, driver's licence should be suspended. He added that the state government is keen to move a proposal for running such cases in time bound manner in fast track court.<br/><br/>The court today was hearing a PIL filed by journalist Nikhil Wagle seeking imposition of harsher legal provisions against actor Salman Khan and also preventive measure needed to be taken in such cases. The PIL also raised issues about enhancing the punishment prescribed in law in such cases.
