Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra has said that history and destiny of a nation is determined by 3 Ps- Principles, People and Parliament. He said, the principles and core values were set out very clearly in the Constitution of India. Mr Chandra stated this at a function in New Delhi where 'Sansad Ratna Awards 2022' were presented to Parliamentarians. He said, being a representative democracy, it's the Will of her People which is Sovereign and most Powerful and &nbsp;the Parliament is the repository of the Trust of people and an expression of this Sovereign Will. During his speech, Mr Chandra also elaborated on the Parliament and the welfare of people and the importance of good legislature.<br />''<br />''The Chief Election Commissioner said, the Parliament of the world's largest democracy should be a model for the whole world and should adopt the best practices evolved in other countries. He said, the classical functions of a good legislature is Inclusive' legislature. Mr Chandra said, legislature has to be responsive to what citizens want, their expectations and aspirations.<br />''<br />''He said, democracy is premised on the people of the country and all institutions whether it is Parliament or Executive or Election Commission, – the focus is on people, their dreams, aspirations and expectations. He said, it is only through regular elections which are free, fair and inclusive that a truly representative Parliament is chosen. Elaborating furhter, the Chief Election Commisioner said that &nbsp;it &nbsp;is Commission's &nbsp;constant endeavor that voters must be well informed so that the best candidate is chosen for the Parliament or Assembly who can represent them.&nbsp; Sansad Ratna Awards were given away in three categories.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award for Lifetime Achievement for 2022 was presented to Dr M. Veerappa Moily of Congress and former Health Minister of Tamil Nadu &nbsp;Dr H.V. Hande. Sansad &nbsp;Vishisht Ratna Award was given to RSP MP N K Premachandran and Shrirang Appa Barne of Shiv Sena while BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato and Dr Heena Vijayakumar Gavit and &nbsp;Congress MP &nbsp;Kuldeep Rai Sharma&nbsp;among others were honoured with Sansad Ratna Awards.<br />''<br />''Smt. Supriya Sule of NCP and &nbsp;Dr. Heena Gavit of BJP from &nbsp;Maharashtra were honored with the Parliamentary Ratna Award.<br />''Supriya Sule is getting this award for the seventh time and Heena Gavit is getting this award for the sixth time in a row.
