Hindu calendar New Year being celebrated across country

Today marks the first day of spring season and New Year's Day of traditional Hindu calendar based on the beginning of new moon. Known by various names, Chaitra Sukladi, Gudi Padava, Ugadi, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, the Hindu calendar New Year is being celebrated across the country today. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion. Greeting Kashmir Pandits celebrating the New Year, the Prime Minister has expressed hope that coming year enhances the spirit of happiness and harmony in everybody lives.
