Print media industry continued to grow in 2010-11 with 6.25 per cent growth over the previous year. According to the 55th annual report on the state on Press in India, the total number of registered newspapers stands at 82,237 at present and the rate of growth for registered publications was 6.25 per cent over the previous years.
An official release said that the report has highlighted key trends for the Indian press for the year 2010-11. The analysis provides a broad overview about the general trend of the Indian press based on the number and claimed circulation of newspapers. The report was presented to Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Uday Kumar Varma by Registrar of Press T Jayaraj. It said, Hindi leads other languages in having the highest number of newspaper-7910 published in it followed by English-1406 and Urdu-938.
