The Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari today stressed the need to accelerate efforts to make real progress in the development of Hindi and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country. He said that apart from other Indian languages the popular words of some of the foreign languages could also be adopted to enrich Hindi. Mohammed Ansari was speaking at a function to mark Hindi Diwas today. It was on this day in 1949 when Hindi was accepted as the official language of the country. The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram who also spoke parts of his address in Hindi said that the benefit the fast progress in the IT sector should reach those who use Hindi as their medium. He said that simple and easy words should be used instead of the difficult ones to promote Hindi and widen its reach. The Minister of State for Home Mr. Ajay Maken said that much needs to be done by the private sector to develop Hindi websites. The neighbouring state has already released over 11 lakh cusecs of water into Yamuna in the last five days resulting in the rise in its level. However, Flood Control Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan has said that situation will normalise and people living in the relief camps will be able to go back to their homes in four to five days time.
