Himayat Baig’s police custody extended

The Pune’s sessions court today extended the police custody of German bakery blast accused Himayat Baig till September 28. Public prosecutor A V Ausekar informed the court that police needed more time to examine Baig’s alleged links with Lashkar-e Toiba. He added that the police was also looking for details of the bogus bank accounts in which money from foreign countries had been deposited and also probe about the local support base of the accused. Baig’s lawyer, A Rahman who took the case despite a protest from Pune Bar Association, opposed extension of Baig's custody saying police had been given sufficient time and his client should be sent to magisterial custody. But Judicial Magistrate Swarup Bose rejected his plea.Meanwhile, the judicial custody of another accused Bilal has been extended by 14 days by the Nashik’s session court. The court rejected the plea of ATS officials who wanted Bilal to be sent into police custody. They wanted to probe deeply into Bilal’s foreign trips and his connection to the German Bakery blast. No lawyer appeared from Bilal’s side in the court today.
