Himachal Pradesh will get 7.19 % share in all the power projects situated in the state under management of Bhakra Beas Management Board since 1966. It is a land mark judgement for Himachal pradesh in which the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday granted relief to the State of Himachal Pradesh by allowing 7.19 share in the power of all the hydro electric projects executed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) from the date of commissioning of the projects to Himachal Pradesh. The Supreme Court had also allowed 7.19 power share in the Bhakra Project from November, 1966 while equal power share would be made available to the State from the date of commissioning of Beas Sutlej Link and Pong Dam Projects, also executed by BBMB. The Punjab and Haryana Governments had also been asked to pay Rs. 5 lakh each to Himachal Pradesh.Mean while The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh has welcomed the decision and said that the State had staked a claim of Rs.2199.77 crore in its favour as compensation for the failure of BBMB to supply 12 percent and 7.19 percent shares respectively in its projects to Himachal Pradesh. He said that the Hon’ble Court has also directed the Government of India to submit detailed report to the Honble Supreme Court of India within six months in the case of granting compensation to Himachal Pradesh.Himachal Pradesh Govt. moved to the Supreme Court in the year 1996 about having denied share in the allocation of power from Bhakra Beas management board projects. The state also pleaded that Himachal should get 7.19%share in the BBMB projects on the basis of transferred population under reorganization of Punjab state in 1966. State also asked for 12% free power in accordance with the policy as the Bhakra and Beas hydro power stations were located with in the state. On Tuesday Supreme Court has not only granted share in the BBMB projects which amounts to be hundreds of crores but also awarded 6 percent interest on the share since 1996. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhmal and Cabinet minister Virbhadra Singh both have welcomed the decision and said that after five decades the justice has been done to Himachal in this case.
